In the Paper - William Fredrich Carls and the Hog Thief

My 2x great grandfather William (originally Wilhelm) Fredrich Carls was a German immigrant to Kansas. He came over to the United States from Northern Germany when he was a teenager with his father, Herman Weyers Carls. I know a lot about him as his daughter wrote a history of his life, but while pursuing the papers in his locality I found a humorous story I had never heard before. Apparently William returned home to find that his hogs were missing. A series of miscommunications and a race with a train finally ended with the thief being put behind bars.

 Later the newspaper reported that Mr Hayden had been held on 500$ bail.
